JOHN BUCKLEY BACON...
...was born in New York City in 1842 to John P. and Sarah (nee Southmayde). By 1850, his father, an oyster merchant had moved his family to Middletown, Connecticut. Buckley, as he was called, was the oldest of a family of all boys and his father did not want him to join the army. Buckley feigned a vacation in Wisconsin where he joined the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry.
