Patrick was born February 11, 1822, in County Clare, Ireland, but emigrated with his parents in 1825. The family first lived in Montreal, Canada, and seven years later, moved to Rochester, New York.

Graduating from the Academy in Henrietta in 1838, he began his teaching career and was eminently successful. In 1844, he married Delia (nee Lord) of Mendon.

The Village of Pittsford was incorporated in 1827 and Patrick served as president of the village – similar to the office of Mayor. He was an “old school” Democrat and was elected Supervisor of the Town of Pittsford from 1865–1873.

He was manager of the State Industrial School for 12 years and also served as inspector of the Monroe County Penitentiary for 16 years.

Patrick and Delia had six children; 3 boys and 3 girls. The girls married prominent men and remained in the town for their entire lives. Patrick died on July 3, 1899 aged 77.
