Andrew Wolfe was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1922. He served in World War II and when his service was over, he attended and was graduated from Harvard College and went on to become a journalistic force.

In 1956, he created the company known as Wolfe Community Newspapers into which he incorporated five weekly local newspapers, including "The Brighton-Pittsford Post". He also authored several books on local history and was a publisher of magazines on antiques.

He purchased the Phoenix Building on South Main Street in Pittsford Village and carefully restored it after a disastrous fire. He also helped save an historic building, known as The Little House, from demolition and oversaw its move across Monroe Avenue to be located next to Pittsford Fire Hall #1. The Little House then became the office of Historic Pittsford of which Andrew was founder and the first president. Historic Pittsford is responsible for maintaining and preserving the rich heritage of the 19th and 20th century architecture that is prevalent in the village of Pittsford.

Andy and his wife, Vivienne (nee Tellier), purchased and restored Richardson’s Canal House Inn on the banks of the Erie Canal. They turned it into one of the area’s best known landmarks. It received a listing on the National Registry of Historic Places. They added other period buildings beside the inn and created an historic oasis in the hamlet of Bushnell’s Basin.
